On December 8th, there was excursion on Siepmann –Werke GmbH & Co. Olexandr Grydin, Vladymir Kyselov, Oleksandr Kuzmenko, Hanna Makeieva were warmly met by Klaus Wege and Juri Wasiliev. Interesting presentation about plant facilities and history was presented by Klaus Wege. Siepmann –Werke was found in 1891 as Peters&CIE und in 1938 got modern name. The specialization is forging of big size samples for different vehicle. The plant can produce their own forging die and has their own heat treatment process. This plant produces parts from 50 till 1700kg.
Mostly it is big size products, that is why orders are no so big. Because of this Siepmann –Werke produces around 3500 forging stamps in one year. The production is about 23000 ton in year. The Siepmann plant works with different companies all over the world.

Olexandr Grydin got acquainted with tasks of Material science department of Paderborn University as well as with project “Students practice in Metallurgy”. He told about processes and technologies that provides at Material science department in Paderborn University. It will be great, that this acquaintanceship will grow to the sustainable developed collaboration.
Then representatives of Paderborn University were represented the plant facilities, steps of work and forging processes. It was very interesting. Some students have seen forging processes at the first time. They were impressed so much.
The students are very grateful for such a good chance to visit this plant and got to know with processes of forging with their own eyes.


During the excursion on the Siepmann Plant

On November 29th, was the Conference in Berlin about Q-Form Simulation Software. Students took part in this conference. This conference was visited by Frolov Iaroslav, Kyrylo Karpenko, Alina Panchenko, Olesia Rozenberg, Maksym Petrenko, Volodymyr Kyselov, Oleksandr Kyzmenko, Makeieva Hanna (National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine), Alex Baun (University Paderborn). Here were discussed such question as extrusion in simulation. Victor Biba made the presentation about the benefits of usage of FEM simulation program in the exact examples.
Alex Baun, Kyrylo Karpenko and Hanna Makeieva report on the simulation in Q- Form. Alex Baun reported about simulation of hot rolling process, and Kyrylo Karpenko told about extrusion of bimetals. Anna Makeieva told about DAAD –project, its implementation and development.
All participants are very thankful to organizers of this event for possibility to take part in Q-Form conference.

After the conference all the participants of conference visited the BMW production of motorcycle. The facilities, located in Berlin , are only part of BMW Corporation. The department of technical development located in Munchen, in Bavaria. In Berlin is located the facilities of parts preparing and departments of assembling.
The participants of the excursion visited the department of production parts of the machine and two department of assembling. It was very interesting excursion because not only the production process, but also the features of the organization process of work were learnt.

On November 28, we have Industrial colloquium. This day a lot of people gathered in Leibniz University Hannover in Institute of Material science . Here were representatives from Benteler Steel/Tube – Jozef Balun, and from Salzgitter Maschmann Forschung – Thomas Evertz as well as representatives from Leibniz University Hannover, Institute of Material science (Florian Nürnberger, Oleksandr Golovko, Illia Hordych, Dmytro Rodman, Katharina Reimann), University Paderborn – Olexandr Grydin, National metallurgical Academy of Ukraine – Iaroslav Frolov, Anton Aschkelianets, Sergey Bondarenko.

At the beginning the students, that already had passed the practice, were heard by all persons. The report was made by Kyrylo Karpenko, Oleksandr Kuzmenko, Volodymir Kyselov, Makeieva Hanna, Panchenko Alina, Petrenko Maksym, Rozenberg Olesia, Ryzkin Oleksandr, Semenov Oleksandr. They made the report about the practice tasks, that they are done, obtained skills, visited professional and nonprofessional excursions, social experience.

After cofee brake we stared to listen to students, which will make practice next year. Students represented their presentations, answered the questions. After that representatives of all organizations had meeting and discussed the practice results, made plans for future, made the distribution of practice places for students, which will have practice in autumn 2018. The decision about place for practice in future year is follow:

During the colloquium

On November 27 and 28, all students had excursion in Leibniz University Hannover in Laboratory of institute of material science. They visited various department of the laboratory, and so extrusion process, rolling mill with welding seam. Students saw the examples of engine, the department of producing small metallic thing for medicine. For example here are produced thin cooper wires, which used in surgical operations. Students visited the metallography department with various microscopes.

One of the department was visited is that works with materials under the water. For example, they make welding under the water or raise the cylindrical form like 3D printing but using metal. It was interesting.

On November 26, all ukrainian student, which took practice in 2017, gathered together in Leibniz University Hannover in Institute of Material science. They have the Intercultural training here. Judit have leaded the students this interesting session and ms. Reimann supported event in every organization questions.
At the beginning participants made exercise about describing all things, that they remembering from the last year. It was interesting, because everyone remember something other. Then participants discussed some particularities about time, space and individualism /сollectivism behavior in different group of people. It was useful, because of understanding, that thing could be broader then people get habit to think. For example, someone more individual, other prefers to support collective thinking. For different people the comfortable space could be different. It is because of various conditions of education, family relationships, national culture, and other situation that could be in person life. The understanding of all this thing helps doesn’t to make the quick wrong conclusion and relative reaction. Students discussed the various situations that happened during the practice, and watched one film about foreigner in Turkey. It was interesting day. Time went so fast and useful.

During the practice Kyrylo have worked with Alexender Golovko, which was his mentor of practice. They conducted a lot of experiments which relate to forward extrusion based on Al and Cu.

After experiments Kyrylo prepared dies for others experiments and researched cross section of extruded tubes and rod. He has worked with cutting machine, blasting and polishing machine to treatment the billets and extrusion tools as well.
Sometime he had assignments to look for some literature or articles about composite extrusion, 3D printing dies, composite angular extrusion. It was interesting for him, he got a lot of new knowledge in the metal forming and material science.

During the internship Hanna Makeieva dealt with the different tasks. The first one was to review new steel materials that can be used in cars producing. She reviewed different components of the cars, which is potentially interesting for Benteler Steel/Tube. It was rather new topic for her was to assist in the laboratory. She cut a part of the pipes by herself, prepared samples and looked at the microstructures.

Hanna dealt with new alloys, did patent and literature research and prepared a table of possible alloy compositions, created animations for employee presentations about new alloys.She did literature research on hole expansion tests and did a data analysis of Charpy tests on annulus tubing samples and have created a database from the previous results.The other task was about simulation. She have found in the literature values for the coefficient of friction used in the DEFORM simulation of push-bench process.All of these topics were completely or partially new for Hanna. She got very good experiences and was glad to work with different people in the advanced engineering department.

They traveled I different cities and countries. Almost every week they traveled. Their first trip was to Amsterdam, where they walked along the streets, visited interesting cafes and went to the Red Lights Street. The next trip was to Paris. Maksym, Oleksandr and Kyrylo achieved the top of the Eiffel Tower, walked along the Élysées and visited the Louvre.

They visited the capital of Germany – Berlin as well. In this beautiful city they were near the Reichstag, the Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall. The other cities, which were visited by students, were Bremen and Prague. Maksym and Kyrylo visited many wonderful and ancient places there. After that they visited Vienna. They were in the Hundertwasser house, near the factory Hundertwasser and near many beautiful places. The Marienburg Castle, Hamburg were visited as well. Students were impressed by the museum of miniatures and in Elbe Philharmonic in Hamburg.

During the internship, Maksym Petrenko studied the alloy CMSX-4. This alloy is used in the blades of aircraft turbines. He did a creep simulation in the QForm program, built a model of tool and sample for this experiment in SolidWorks, and then simulated the creep experiment in this program. He conducted experiments in the Ansys program as well. Maksym made the experiment with the sample and compared the results of the simulation with the results of the actual experiment. In Ansys software he investigated the elongation of the CMSX-4 alloy upon its heating and investigated how this alloy gives heat to copper conductors when it is heated in consequence of the current pulse conducted through the sample and, as a consequence, its deformation.
